This exquisite 19th c. French Vernis Martin designed 2 door mahogany display cabinet features a highly ornate brass inlaid decoration and ormolu mounts with a stunning dark marble top and the original working lock and key. The cabinet is lined with a soft grey velvet and measures 56 in 142.2 cm wide, 14 in 37.5 cm deep and 62 in 159.4 cm in height. In French interior design, Vernis Martin is a type (or a number of types) of Japanning or imitation lacquer named after the French Martin brothers: Guillaume, Etienne-Simon, Robert and Julien, made by heating oil and coal and then adding Venetian turpentine.
